The General Directorate of Meteorology of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change has released data showing that average temperatures last month were well above seasonal norms in various regions of Turkey. According to the report, the average June temperature across the country was 25.4 degrees, a significant 3.6 degrees higher than the usual 21.8 degrees recorded between 1991-2020.

In a historical comparison dating back to 1971, June 2024 was marked as the hottest June in the past 53 years. The highest temperature recorded during the month was a scorching 47.8 degrees in Ceylanpınar, Şanlıurfa, while the lowest temperature was a chilly 1.6 degrees in Erzurum.

Across different regions of Turkey, temperatures varied but mostly remained above seasonal norms. In the Marmara Region, the average temperature was 25.3 degrees, with Balıkesir experiencing the lowest and highest temperatures at 11.2 and 41.4 degrees, respectively. The Aegean Region saw an average temperature of 28 degrees, with Aydın hitting a high of 44.6 degrees. In the Mediterranean Region, temperatures reached an average of 28.2 degrees, with Antalya hitting a high of 44.7 degrees.

Moving inland, the Central Anatolia Region saw an average temperature of 23.4 degrees, with Ankara experiencing a high of 39.3 degrees. The Black Sea Region had an average temperature of 22.8 degrees, with Düzce hitting a high of 39.7 degrees. In the Eastern Anatolia Region, temperatures ranged from 1.6 degrees in Erzurum to 40.1 degrees in Elazığ Palu.

Lastly, the Southeastern Anatolia Region had average temperatures of 31.1 degrees, with Ceylanpınar recording the highest temperature of 47.8 degrees. Overall, June 2024 was a month of exceptionally high temperatures across Turkey, setting new records and challenging the norm.
