Turkey Sends German Shepherd Puppy to Mexico in Honor of “Proteo”

Mexican authorities have asked the public to vote on the name of their new search and rescue dog, which has been raised and trained by civilian and military teams. The Mexican Ministry of Defense has put forward three names; Proteo 2, Friend, and Help. The dogs are specially trained for post-disaster search and rescue missions in Mexico, where earthquakes are a frequent occurrence. After earthquakes struck Mexico in 2017, search and rescue dogs saved many lives, and dogs were soon sent to Turkey and Syria to rescue victims trapped under rubble. Among the dogs sent to Turkey was a 9-year-old German shepherd named Proteo, who helped to rescue a man and a woman from the rubble. Unfortunately, Proteo died during the mission, and his trainer denied that the dog died from falling debris, stating that the animal died from exhaustion from the long journey and participating in hours of search and rescue under very cold conditions. Turkish authorities have given Mexico a new puppy in memory of Proteo, and the Mexican Ministry of Defense has said it is looking forward to receiving the new dog and hopes that they will carry on with Proteo’s legacy. The trainer of Proteo gave an emotional speech from the disaster area, thanking the dog for being strong, hardworking, and never giving up, and promised to always remember him.
