Turkey to Become One of Few Countries with Steel Dome Technology, Says Roketsan General Manager
Roketsan General Manager Murat İkinci recently attended the TEKNOFEST 2024 Rocket Competition at the Salt Lake Hisar Shooting Range, and shared some insights about Turkey’s national technology initiatives and the company’s latest developments.
During the event, Murat İkinci highlighted that Turkey has set major goals in the field of technology, particularly in reaching major technologies and space technologies. He emphasized that the TEKNOFEST 2024 Rocket Competition plays a crucial role in supporting these goals and motivating young people, contributing to their development. He also noted the increasing success rate of the competition day by day.
In his remarks, Murat İkinci also touched upon the latest developments in Roketsan’s projects, particularly mentioning the Kara Atmaca missile. Developed by Roketsan, Kara Atmaca recently completed its longest flight successfully, hitting its target with precision during a firing test activity. İkinci highlighted the importance of Kara Atmaca as a longer-range missile system that will soon be included in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces, providing significant added value and capabilities to the land forces.
Furthermore, Murat İkinci shared information about Roketsan’s Steel Dome Project, which aims to integrate various defense systems into a comprehensive air defense network to protect Turkey against aerial threats. This project includes the SUNGUR Air Defense Missile System, HİSAR air defense missile family, SİPER long-range regional air defense system, and the ALKA laser system. Once implemented, Turkey will become one of the few countries with such an advanced air defense system.
Lastly, Murat İkinci highlighted Roketsan’s focus on addressing the growing threat of drone attacks, emphasizing the importance of effective laser weapons for protection. He mentioned the ALKA product, which has been in the Turkish Armed Forces inventory for some time, and the company’s investments to enhance its capabilities and integrate multiple ALKA systems into a centralized structure to combat future drone threats effectively.
