Turkey to Bring Support for YPG to NATO Summit while Urging Nations to Sever Ties with Terrorist Organizations

The second session will include leaders from the Alliance’s Asia-Pacific partners, as well as the Presidents of the EU Council and Commission. The final session will be held in the NATO-Ukraine Council format with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will engage in bilateral talks during the summit, emphasizing the importance of not imposing sanctions on fellow allies in the defense industry. Erdoğan will call for increased efforts in the fight against terrorism, highlighting the connection between terrorism and NATO’s deterrence and defense structure.

In other news, President Erdoğan congratulated Iranian President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian on his election victory during a phone call, expressing his belief in the continued development of relations between Turkey and Iran. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also met with ASEAN countries’ ambassadors in Ankara, discussing potential areas of cooperation such as defense industry, transportation, and education and culture. Turkey holds Sectoral Dialogue Partner status in ASEAN, which includes countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam.
