Türkiye İş Bankası Celebrates 70 Years of Contribution to the Turkish Cypriot People
Türkiye İş Bankası TRNC General Manager Serhan Akşahin highlighted the bank’s 70 years of commitment to the Turkish Cypriot people and entrepreneurs, emphasizing its significant role in the economic development of Cyprus.
The journey of Türkiye İş Bankası in Cyprus began on 21 February 1955 with the opening of its first branch in Nicosia. Over the past seven decades, the bank has expanded to operate 15 branches across the country, solidifying its presence and commitment to the local community. In addition to its banking services, Türkiye İş Bankası has actively engaged in various social responsibility initiatives to support the Northern Cyprus community.
With a balance sheet size of TL 53.5 billion as of the end of 2024, İşbank holds the title of the largest bank in the TRNC, setting corporate tax records multiple times between 2020 and 2023. The founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş played a pivotal role as the bank’s first legal consultant, laying the foundation for a longstanding partnership.
Akşahin emphasized the bank’s unwavering support for the Turkish Cypriot people through both good and challenging times, underscoring the importance of İşbank’s local presence and contributions to the economy. Serving with 238 employees across six districts in Cyprus, the bank prides itself on empowering the community with locally inspired initiatives.
In addition to its financial services, Türkiye İş Bankası actively engages in social responsibility activities, including partnerships with organizations like the Northern Cyprus Chess Federation and environmental initiatives such as tree planting projects and marine turtle monitoring. The bank also supports educational endeavors through scholarships and book donations to local libraries, fostering a culture of learning and development.
