Turkey’s Health Minister Claims Proactive Response to Covid-19 Pandemic
Turkey’s Health Minister, Fahrettin Koca, has responded to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recent statement that Covid-19 no longer constitutes a global emergency. In a Twitter post, Koca reminded his followers that Turkey was among the countries that took early action and provided a treatment guide before the rest of the world. He highlighted that Turkey’s efforts to control the spread of Covid-19 were recognized by the WHO, which ultimately helped the country manage the pandemic better.
Koca also shared a part of his speech given at the opening of Giresun Aksu Training and Research Hospital last month, in which he stated that the epidemic was beginning to come off the country’s agenda. This statement is encouraging news for Turkey, which has been one of the most successful countries in managing the Covid-19 pandemic.
In recent months, Turkey has introduced a range of measures to slow the spread of Covid-19, including vaccinations, testing, and contact tracing. As of February 1st, 2022, Turkey has vaccinated over 87% of its adult population with at least one dose, and over 80% with two doses.
