Togg: Turkey’s Domestic Car Making Waves in Global Markets
Turkey’s dream of having a domestic automobile brand became a reality with the introduction of Togg, making the country a key player in the global technology and production industry focused on electrification, mobility, and autonomy technologies. Togg is not only shaping the future of the automotive industry but also leading the way for a new era of e-mobility.
The journey towards a domestic automobile began back in 1961 with the “Devrim” car, Turkey’s first attempt, which unfortunately could not go into mass production. Years later, under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the “Fathers” of Togg came together to establish Turkey’s Automobile Enterprise Group (TOGG). This marked the beginning of a new chapter in Turkey’s automotive history.
In 2017, the first steps towards the domestic automobile were taken with the collaboration of various Turkish companies. The goal was clear: to create a globally competitive electric car that would revolutionize the industry. With the appointment of Mehmet Gürcan Karakaş as TOGG’s top manager, the project gained momentum.
Fast forward to December 27, 2019, Turkey witnessed the birth of its first electric domestic car at a grand event in Gebze, graced by President Erdoğan. The journey did not stop there, as plans for mass production began to take shape with the construction of a state-of-the-art factory in Bursa’s Gemlik district.
In October 29, 2022, mass production of Togg officially commenced, marking a significant milestone for Turkey’s automotive industry. The domestic car made its international debut at the Consumer Electronics Fair (CES) in Las Vegas, USA, showcasing Turkey’s technological advancements on a global stage.
By March 2023, the first sales of Togg were announced, with a total of 37 thousand units sold by September 2024. Togg quickly gained popularity in the electric car market, with one in every three electric cars sold in Turkey being a Togg.
The success of Togg was further highlighted when it entered the list of “Turkey’s 500 Largest Industrial Enterprises” in 2023, solidifying its position among the country’s top industrial players. Togg’s impact was not limited to production, as the company also focused on building a robust charging network across all 81 provinces in Turkey.
With new developments and partnerships, Togg continued to push the boundaries of innovation. The launch of the Togg T10X and the introduction of new software updates showcased the company’s commitment to technological advancement.
As Togg gears up for the future, plans for the release of a new sedan model, T10F, in 2025 are already in motion. With a range of 600 kilometers, the T10F promises to combine sportiness with the elegance of a sedan vehicle, setting new standards for the industry.
With the vision of producing 1 million vehicles across 5 different models by 2030, Togg is set to continue its journey towards becoming a global leader in the ever-evolving automotive industry.
