
Turkish and TRNC Agreement on Citrus Fruits and Cold Storage Construction Signed

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) recently met with Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz in Ankara to sign a memorandum of understanding in the field of citrus. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation between the two countries and implement the “Advanced Fruit Processing and Frozen-Cold Storage Capacity Development Project in the TRNC Citrus Sector.”
In a statement to the press after the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Üstel emphasized the strong historical ties between Turkey and TRNC, expressing his pleasure at further strengthening these relations. He highlighted the importance of the new project in the citrus sector, which will include building a 40 thousand tons capacity cold storage facility in Güzelyurt.
The project, funded by the agreement, will not only benefit citrus growers but will also increase the processing capacity for other agricultural products, ensuring international standards and boosting exports. The initiative will promote sustainability and environmental friendliness, utilizing green energy and incorporating residue analysis to enhance product quality.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Üstel discussed various other ongoing projects with Vice President Yılmaz, including initiatives in transportation, health, agriculture, social housing, and energy. He underscored the significance of political stability in driving development and investment, stressing the need for strong governance to realize vital projects for the Turkish Cypriot people.
