Turkish Coffee Exported to 146 Countries

Turkish Coffee Exports on the Rise

The Turkish coffee industry has seen a significant increase in exports in recent years, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Last year, a total of 8,652 tons of coffee were sold worldwide, generating a revenue of $57,491,128. This marks a threefold increase in coffee exports over the past five years, with 2019’s export revenue being $19,268,937.

The total income from coffee exports in the last five years has amounted to $200,690,415, with Syria emerging as the top importing country for Turkish coffee. Syria imported coffee worth $10,470,784, followed by Belarus with $8,532,753 and Russia with $6,576,522. Other countries with high coffee imports from Turkey include the USA, the Netherlands, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom, with Turkish coffee becoming a sought-after taste in 146 countries.

In terms of coffee imports, Turkey spent $465,184,209 on importing coffee last year, with Brazil being the largest supplier. A total of $285,268,013 worth of coffee was purchased from Brazil, making it the leading coffee supplier to Turkey.

Osman Serim, Vice President of the Turkish Coffee Culture and Research Association, highlighted that Turkey has made significant progress in the preparation and presentation of coffee in recent years. Despite not being a coffee producer, Turkey has excelled in producing and exporting coffee machines suitable for the traditional “cezve coffee” method, branded processed coffees, as well as porcelain and glass service items, contributing to the popularity of Turkish coffee globally.

Serim emphasized the importance of developing machinery and technological production for Turkish coffee, drawing parallels with Italy, a country known for its value-added coffee brands. He suggested that by focusing on creating popular coffee chains and enhancing Turkish coffee promotion globally, Turkey can establish itself as a key player in the coffee industry.

With both the government and private sector’s support, Turkish coffee is expected to gain further popularity worldwide in the coming years, positioning Turkey as a leading player in the coffee export market.
