Turkish Directorate of Communications Releases Book on Cyprus
President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has made a statement regarding the Cyprus issue, emphasizing the importance of not excluding the Turkish Cypriots from the conversation and the need to address the historical context. Erdoğan expressed his wish to lift restrictions that have no legal basis and are purely political in nature.
The Presidency of the Republic of Turkey Directorate of Communications has published a book titled “Who is to Blame? Today Cannot Be Considered Separately from the Past” to shed light on the history of the Cyprus issue. President Erdoğan highlighted the complexity of the Cyprus issue, describing it as one of the longest unresolved phenomena in international relations.
The book aims to document and explain the historical background of the Cyprus issue, focusing on the ethnic and political tensions that have shaped the island. President Erdoğan stressed the importance of understanding the sociological texture of Cyprus in order to contribute to finding a solution.
Erdoğan pointed out the injustices and attacks faced by the Turkish Cypriot people throughout history, especially since the 1960s. He highlighted the Turkish community’s struggle for security and existence in the face of threats and attacks from the Greek community.
The book, originally published in French in 1974 and recently re-prepared in Turkish and English, aims to combat political lies and disinformation against Turkish Cypriots and Turkey. It provides a detailed account of the events leading up to and following the Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974, shedding light on the historical facts behind the Cyprus issue.
President Erdoğan expressed his gratitude to those who contributed to the book and commemorated the martyrs, veterans, and heroes who played a role in the Cyprus Peace Operation. The book serves as an archive work that presents the truth with documents and photographs, challenging attempts to reduce the Cyprus issue to just the events of 1974.
