Turkish Family Converts Bus into Motorhome for Journey to Fifth World Nomad Games in Astana
A Turkish family has captured attention by converting a 1982 bus into a cozy motorhome named Nomad and embarking on a remarkable journey from Ankara to Astana for the Fifth World Nomad Games (WNG), as reported by the Kazinform news agency.
The adventurous family consists of clinical psychologist Idil Duran, carpenter Burak Duran, and their two-year-old son, who have temporarily left their life in Istanbul to live in their bus and explore the world. Their journey has taken them on the road for nine months, sharing their experiences and travels on their social media page, “Where Is This?”
Starting from the Turkish capital of Ankara, the Duran family will cover approximately 5,400 kilometers to reach Astana, Kazakhstan, where the Fifth WNG will take place in September. In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Burak Duran shared that their motorhome adventures have spanned three years, with this year’s journey taking them to Kazakhstan for the Nomad Games.
Idil Duran outlined the route they plan to take, from Turkey to Georgia, then to Russia, through Tatarstan, and finally to Kazakhstan. She expressed her deep connection to Central Asia and the excitement of exploring the region with her family.
The process of converting the bus into a motorhome has had a profound impact on their lives, allowing them to travel comfortably and show their son the beauty of their country and its culture. The family’s nomadic lifestyle has become their new way of life, offering a sense of freedom and adventure.
The Fifth WNG will celebrate the rich traditions of nomadic culture, featuring a program of sports, cultural, and scientific events. The cultural program includes the Universe of Nomads ethno-village and a theatrical performance titled “Astana: The Capital of Nomads.”
With 89 countries confirmed to participate and over 2,500 athletes expected to attend, Kazakhstan will be represented by 200 athletes who have been preparing diligently for the games. Tickets for the opening ceremony and individual sporting events are now available for purchase on the official website of the World Nomad Games.
