Turkish Minister Holds Crucial Meeting in Iran with Caucasus Chief
The second meeting of the “Regional Cooperation Platform for the Establishment of Lasting Peace and Stability in the South Caucasus” took place in the capital city of Iran, Tehran. The meeting, held in a 3+3 format, saw the participation of Foreign Ministers from Turkey, Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.
During his opening speech, Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Emir Abdullahiyan conveyed a message of peace and cooperation, declaring that the war in the South Caucasus has come to an end. In addition, Abdullahiyan denounced the attacks on Gaza by Israel, describing them as “war crimes.” He emphasized the urgency to halt the genocide in Gaza and prevent the forced migration of Palestinians.
Following the meeting, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had a meeting with Iranian President Ibrahim Reisi, discussing matters of mutual interest. Fidan also held separate bilateral meetings with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
The final declaration of the meeting emphasized the importance of not targeting civilians in Gaza. Furthermore, the leaders highlighted the significance of economic cooperation for the prosperity of the Caucasus region.
It was agreed upon that the next meeting of the Regional Cooperation Platform would take place in Turkey, continuing the efforts towards lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
