Turkish Minister of National Defense Güler Criticizes Greek Cypriot Armament Activities
The Turkish Minister of National Defense, Yaşar Güler, has raised concerns about the armament activities of the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, stating that they are damaging the delicate balance on the island. During the Annual Evaluation Meeting for media representatives at the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Turkey, Minister Güler emphasized that previous solution methods for the Cyprus issue have not yielded any results.
“We are closely following any developments that may upset the balance on the island of Cyprus and pose a threat to the security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,” Minister Güler stated. He highlighted the increased mobility on the island following events in the Middle East and the armament activities of the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus as factors contributing to the imbalance.
Furthermore, Minister Güler expressed concern over the “Road Map on Defense Cooperation” agreement signed between the USA and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, stating that it undermines the neutrality of the USA towards Cyprus. He also criticized the decision by the USA to extend the arms embargo against the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, calling for the recognition of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people as the only solution for the island.
The remarks by Minister Güler highlight the ongoing tensions and challenges surrounding the Cyprus issue, emphasizing the need for a balanced and fair resolution to ensure stability and security on the island.
