Turkish President Erdogan pledges to uphold the constitution
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the public in Istanbul two days before the May 28 election. He urged the citizens to maintain stability and support Turkey’s continued growth. Erdogan addressed the issue of coalition government instability in the past, stating that Turkey has suffered a lot and cannot do it anymore. He also spoke about the example of democracy Turkey set on May 14 with an impressive turnout of 90%. Erdogan pointed out that Turkey is a unique case in the world, with only 30-40% able to turnout in other countries.
The Turkish President also highlighted his government’s achievements in investing in the country and fighting terrorist organizations, leading to the strongest position of democracy in Turkey over the last 21 years. President Erdogan also addressed the issue of opposition party leader, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, stating that the PKK supported him. He asked people to object to those who do not see their will as important.
Erdogan’s political speech also touched on the issue of refugees and safe return. The President stated that more than 550,000 Syrians have already returned to areas cleared of terror. Erdogan aims to ensure the safe and dignified return of asylum seekers with the support of the nation, without compromising the sanctity of the family.
President Erdogan urged voters’ support towards retaining stability and Turkey’s continuous growth. The elections are on May 28.
