Turkey Celebrates 100th Anniversary of Republic Day with Enthusiasm
The Republic of Turkey, which has reached its centenary, is celebrating its founding with great enthusiasm. This year, the celebrations were not confined to a single day but spread over several weeks. Various sportive, artistic, and cultural events have been organized to mark the occasion. Today, the official ceremonies will take place, reaching the peak of excitement.
In conjunction with Turkey, ceremonies and events are being held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to commemorate the 29th of October Republic Day. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will attend special programs held in Ankara and Istanbul. On October 29th, President Erdoğan, accompanied by other state officials, will visit Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey.
President Erdoğan will deliver a speech titled “100th Anniversary” at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and participate in the 19th Anniversary Official Parade. In Istanbul, he will observe the Navy and Turkish Air Force parades on the Bosphorus. Additionally, President Erdoğan will address the citizens with his “Year Address” and witness a spectacular parade on the Bosphorus at 5:00 PM. The parade will include 100 ships, notably TCG Anadolu, and 20 combat aircraft like Turkish Stars and SOLOTÜRK. A salute of 101 cannon shots will also be fired during the parade, making it the largest naval parade in Turkish history.
To add to the festivities, various historical locations such as Galata Tower, Haydarpaşa Train Station, Republic Museum, Ethnography Museum, Clock Tower, Dolmabahçe Palace, as well as tourist destinations like the Ancient City of Ephesus and Cappadocia, will be illuminated with dazzling light shows in an event called “Voice of the Republic, Color of the Republic.”
The Presidential Symphony Orchestra has composed a special “100th Song” for the Republic’s centenary, which will be performed at these venues. Furthermore, there will be a light and fireworks display on the Bosphorus involving 2023 drones.
In Taksim Square, Istanbul, a display area called “Turkey Century from Past to Present” will be set up in front of the Atatürk Cultural Center. This interactive and technological experience will showcase the vision of Turkey’s journey from the past to the present through water curtains, water shows, and 3D content screens.
Inspired by the Turkey Century logo, an installation called “Turkey Century” will also be a part of the celebrations on October 29th. The enthusiasm for the Republic’s anniversary will extend to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, where a ceremony will be held in front of the Atatürk Monument in the capital city of Nicosia. Wreaths will be presented, flags will be raised accompanied by a moment of silence and the National Anthem, and the President and the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey will sign the Monument Special Book.
A procession will also take place in Nicosia and Dereboyu in the afternoon. Later in the evening, a reception will be held at the Turkish Embassy in Nicosia to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic Day. The celebrations will extend to other districts and sub-districts as well. Due to the ceremonial marches and band concerts scheduled for the 29th of October Republic Day program, some routes will be temporarily closed to traffic flow one hour before the ceremony, as announced by the Police Press Officer.
