Turkmen-Iraqi Political Consultations Held Between Foreign Ministries
Turkmen-Iraqi inter-Ministry of Foreign Affairs political consultations took place
On June 5, 2024, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Iraq were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Turkmenistan. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Serdar Muhammetdurdyev, led the Turkmen side, while the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, Mohammed Bahr Al-Ulum, led the Iraqi delegation.
During the consultations, the two countries discussed ways to enhance their bilateral relations in various areas. The importance of expanding the legal framework for cooperation was highlighted.
Recognizing the significant role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering friendly relations between nations, there was a proposal to establish a Turkmen-Iraqi interparliamentary friendship group.
It was also noted that Turkmenistan and Iraq cooperate constructively within international organizations, supporting each other’s initiatives and proposals.
During the meeting, the Turkmen side extended an invitation to the Iraqi leadership to a Summit commemorating the 300th anniversary of Magtymguly Fragi, which will be held in October this year.
The parties identified trade and economic collaboration as a priority area for their partnership. They acknowledged the potential for increasing mutual trade, investment, and executing beneficial projects in sectors such as transport, energy, and water management.
Moreover, they discussed opportunities for cultural and humanitarian cooperation, emphasizing the potential for joint initiatives in fields like science, education, sports, and tourism.
