President of Turkmenistan Signs Decision to Counteract Human Trafficking
Turkmenistan has taken a significant step in the fight against human trafficking with the approval of a National Plan for the period of 2025–2029. The decision was signed by the head of state on Friday, highlighting the country’s commitment to combat this global issue.
Prepared by the Interdepartmental Commission for Combating Human Trafficking in Turkmenistan in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration and UN Office for Drug and Crime, the National Plan emphasizes the importance of cooperation with international organizations and foreign countries. Turkmenistan already has a strong legislative framework in place, including the Law “On Combating Human Trafficking,” which sets the organizational and legal foundation for addressing this issue.
The newly approved National Plan aims to strengthen the state system of guarantees, provision, and protection of human rights and freedoms in Turkmenistan. It focuses on preventive measures and provides comprehensive guidelines with clear targets, deadlines, and indicators for implementation. This builds upon previous National Plans for 2016-2018 and 2020-2022, demonstrating Turkmenistan’s ongoing commitment to combating human trafficking.
The implementation of the National Plan will be closely monitored by designated authorities, as instructed by the President of Turkmenistan. By continuing to work with the international community, Turkmenistan seeks to play a vital role in preventing human trafficking and promoting human rights worldwide.
