Turkmenistan’s Growing Role in North-South ITC

The Turkmenbashi seaport is set to be added to the digital register of transport and logistics centers for the North-South international transport corridor. This decision was made following the materials of the second meeting of the CIS transport business dialogue at the end of January, as reported by the electronic newspaper “Turkmenistan: Golden Age.”

The infrastructure register is expected to be made available on the website of the Coordination Transport Meeting of the Commonwealth Member States, allowing for more effective formation of logistics routes and supply chains along the North-South corridor, in which Turkmenistan is set to play an increasingly important role.

Of the three main routes identified in the ITC development strategy, two of them pass through Turkmenistan: the Trans-Caspian route via the Caspian Sea and the Eastern route via Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

Previously, the seaport of Turkmenbashi was visited by representatives of the Russian Railways Logistics company and its Director General Dmitry Murev, who praised the port’s infrastructure and expressed intention to use its capabilities to develop new logistics solutions. Murev believes that Turkmenistan’s transport infrastructure is capable of handling growing cargo flows, positioning the country as an important transport hub of the future on the East-West and North-South routes.

This new development signifies Turkmenistan’s increasing influence and role in the international transport and logistics sectors, with the Turkmenbashi seaport being recognized as a key player in the North-South international transport corridor.
