TurkmenStat participates in UN Statistical Commission session in New York

The 55th session of the UN Statistical Commission was held from February 27 to March 1 at the UN headquarters in New York. Representatives from 24 member states of the Commission, observers from other countries, and various organizations participated in the meetings.

Dovletgeldi Amanmuhammedov, the chairman of the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics, represented Turkmenistan at the session. The Turkmen delegation discussed topics such as “Data and indicators for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” and “National Accounts.”

Participants were informed about the progress and future development of Turkmenistan’s national economy and statistical sector. The country’s efforts in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were highlighted, including the establishment of the National SDG Implementation Platform and the presentation of the Voluntary National Review in 2023.

During the session, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Jinhua emphasized the importance of data in measuring progress towards the SDGs. The upcoming UN World Data Forum in November 2024 in Colombia, focusing on multilateral cooperation in statistics, was also discussed.

The session concluded with the decision to hold the 56th session of the Commission on March 4-7, 2025 in New York. The continued collaboration and innovative approaches in data collection and analysis were emphasized for achieving the SDGs.
