Twelve Kazakhstan Referees Chosen to Officiate at 2024 Paris Olympics
ASTANA— Twelve referees from Kazakhstan have been selected to officiate at the 2024 Paris Olympics, taking place from July 26 to Aug. 11. The list of specialists who have received an invitation to judge at the prestigious event includes Alua Bekturova for rhythmic gymnastics, Olga Solovyova for weightlifting, Aliya Karimova for artistic swimming, Yulia Ignatchenko and Meruyert Kaukeyeva for tennis, Timur Amirbekov for gymnastics, Yevgeniy Dyakokin for fencing (saber), Yevgeniy Mikheyev for basketball, Yerik Zhumabekov and Igor Ligai for wrestling, as well as Alisher Altayev and Yermek Suyenish for boxing.
Refereeing at the Olympic Games demands a high level of expertise and preparedness from referees. The selection process is rigorous, with international federations forming a pool of judges from the best candidates. The National Olympic Committee’s press service emphasized on July 16 that judges for the Olympic Games are chosen from all around the world, unlike in regular competitions. Selection criteria include the judge’s experience, having officiated a variety of contests including world championships and World Cup stages over the past two years. Additionally, judges must hold a first or second category in their respective sport, such as in rhythmic gymnastics. It is also essential that there are no violations or errors in refereeing during the Olympic season.
In addition to the referees, eighty Kazakh athletes are set to compete in 25 different sports at the Summer Olympics. The representation of Kazakhstan at this global sporting event reflects the country’s commitment to excellence and sportsmanship on the international stage.
