Istanbul Police Detain 58 Suspects for Provocative Social Media Posts

Anti-Terrorism Branch Directorate teams in Istanbul have detained 58 suspects for making provocative posts on social media, encouraging people to take to the streets and inciting fear and panic among citizens. The suspects are accused of promoting hatred and hostility, in violation of Law No. 2911.

The suspects were taken into custody and brought to the Istanbul Palace of Justice in Caglayan for further legal proceedings. Of the 58 individuals, 20 were arrested by the prosecutor’s office, while 36 were referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for judicial control.

Following a hearing, two suspects were remanded into custody, while six others were placed under house arrest as a form of judicial control. The remaining 48 suspects were also subjected to judicial control measures.

Additionally, during the investigation, drugs were seized from several addresses linked to the suspects. A minor under the age of 18 was released on judicial control conditions.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office identified a total of 94 suspects in connection with the case, leading to the simultaneous arrest of 58 individuals by the Anti-Terror Branch Directorate teams. During the operation, synthetic drugs weighing 500 grams were confiscated from various locations, including a student dormitory.

The authorities continue to investigate the matter, aiming to bring those responsible for the provocative social media posts to justice and maintain public safety and order in Istanbul.
