Two Balconies Collapse as Concrete Pump Falls into Apartment during Construction
Concrete pump truck overturns on apartment building, causing damage
A concrete pump vehicle, while pouring concrete at a construction site, overturned on an apartment building leading to minor damage inside. The incident occurred as police and emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene upon receiving citizens’ notice.
As precautions were being taken by the authorities on the street, a crane was called in to lift the concrete pump. However, during the lifting process, the ropes attached to the vehicle broke causing the arm of the concrete truck to fall on the apartment building, resulting in the collapse of two balconies.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, but the police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. The entire incident was captured on a mobile phone camera by a witness.
Relatives of the damaged house owner expressed their shock and frustration over the incident. Şükriye Özkan, a family member, criticized the handling of the situation saying, “Such great irresponsibility has never been seen before.” She highlighted the potential danger posed to her family members, including her daughter-in-law who could have been at home during the incident.
Another resident, Cilasun Bayülgen, whose balcony and living room wall collapsed, shared his experience stating, “The concrete pump fell over, damaging the balcony of the upper floor. They tried to lift it with a crane, but it fell again due to the broken slings, causing further damage to the building. It was a frightening experience.”
The residents also pointed out that proper safety measures were not followed during the operation of the concrete pump, leading to the unfortunate incident. The investigation is ongoing to determine the responsible parties and prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
