Two Ceremonies Mark Liberation of Famagusta

The 50th anniversary of the liberation of Famagusta was commemorated with great pride and respect in two separate ceremonies.
The first ceremony took place at the Victory Monument, where wreaths were laid according to protocol, a moment of silence was observed, and the flags were raised accompanied by the National Anthem.
The second ceremony was held on İsmet İnönü Boulevard and was attended by President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, and other high-ranking officials, as well as members of the public. The ceremony began with the reading of the National Anthem, a moment of silence, and the raising of flags, followed by celebrations honoring the people and ceremonial troops.
During the ceremonies, various speeches were delivered to honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who defended Famagusta 50 years ago. Famagusta Mayor Süleyman Uluçay emphasized the importance of remembering history and the joint efforts of Mehmetçik and Mujahideen in freeing the city.
President Ersin Tatar also addressed the audience, highlighting the crucial role of Turkish soldiers in maintaining the security and sovereignty of the region. He expressed gratitude to the Republic of Turkey and paid tribute to the martyrs and Champion Angels who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Famagusta.
The ceremonies concluded with a performance by the Famagusta Municipality folk dance group and a mini concert, followed by a ceremonial parade. The events served as a reminder of the sacrifices made in the past and the determination to continue preserving the sovereignty of Famagusta and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
