Two Millionth Mercedes Produced in Kecskemét
The Mercedes-Benz factory in Kecskemét, located in central Hungary, recently achieved a significant milestone by completing its two millionth car in October. The milestone vehicle is a blue, five-seater EQB with a pure electric drive, as announced by the German car manufacturer.
Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, praised the employees for their dedication and expertise in building high-quality vehicles at the Hungarian site. The factory in Kecskemét produces Mercedes-Benz A-Class models, CLA Coupé and Shooting Brake models, and Mercedes-Benz EQBs, with over 174,000 vehicles manufactured last year.
Production of Mercedes-Benz compact models began in Kecskemét in 2012 in collaboration with the vehicle plant in Rastatt, Germany. The plant started with B-Class models and later added the four-door CLA Coupé, which was the first Mercedes-Benz model exclusively built in Kecskemét.
In 2021, the production of the first series-produced electric vehicle in Hungary, the all-electric EQB, commenced, marking a significant step in environmentally friendly manufacturing. The site is currently undergoing a major expansion in preparation for the production of new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture and Electric Architecture models, with a new chassis manufacturing and assembly plant as well as a battery assembly plant being built.
Jens Bühler, managing director of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft., expressed gratitude to the Kecskemét team for their contributions to reaching the two millionth milestone. The ongoing factory expansion, which amounts to over EUR 1 billion, aims to meet the strong demand for compact cars and ensure the company remains a reliable partner worldwide.
The success of the Mercedes-Benz factory in Kecskemét highlights Hungary’s role in the global automotive industry and the country’s commitment to innovation and excellence in manufacturing. With further developments in electric vehicle production and factory expansion, the future looks promising for Mercedes-Benz operations in Hungary.
