U.S Inflation Reaches 3.1% Annually in November
The US Department of Labor recently released consumer inflation data for November, showing a 0.1 percent increase in the cost of living for American consumers compared to the previous month. This was in line with market expectations, as it was anticipated that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) would remain unchanged, just as it did in October.
On an annual basis, the country’s CPI rose by 3.1 percent in November, which was in line with market expectations and marked the lowest level of annual inflation in 5 months. In October, annual inflation stood at 3.2 percent.
Housing prices experienced a continued increase during the period, offset by a decrease in gasoline prices. The housing index rose by 0.4 percent monthly and 6.5 percent annually in November. Meanwhile, the energy index decreased by 2.3 percent monthly and 5.4 percent annually, with gasoline prices falling by 6 percent monthly and 8.9 percent annually.
The food index also saw a 0.2 percent monthly increase and a 2.9 percent annual increase during this period.
In terms of core inflation, which excludes variable energy and food prices, the Core CPI increased by 0.3 percent monthly and 4 percent annually in November. This marks the lowest level of core inflation in 2 years on an annual basis. In October, core inflation was at 0.2 percent monthly and 4 percent annually.
Overall, the data showed that the cost of living for American consumers experienced slight increases in November, with some sectors such as housing prices seeing more significant gains, while others, like gasoline, experienced decreases. This information provides valuable insights into the current state of consumer inflation in the US, helping businesses and policymakers make informed decisions.
