Uber Overcomes Hurdles to Return to Budapest, Hungarian Taxi Companies Struggle
Uber is making a comeback in Budapest with the start of driver recruitment in the Hungarian capital. The popular American ridesharing company left Hungary in 2016 but announced its return this year in partnership with Budapest’s Főtaxi.
Drivers looking to join Uber in Budapest can now register through the ridesharing company’s app, a feature that was not available until May. This marks a significant milestone as the recruitment of new drivers only began this month, signaling Uber’s reentry into the Budapest market.
Uber will be utilizing the taxi fares of the capital and ensuring that its cars meet the requirements of traditional taxis. The company has stated that the first cars will hit the streets of Budapest in early summer, although an exact date for the service restart has not been provided.
