UBP Party Assembly announces preliminary list of 70 members
The National Unity Party (UBP) has announced the preliminary list of 70 people who will serve in the Party Assembly. Out of the 6 districts, only the Kyrenia Women’s Quota and İskele Youth Quota did not have any representatives elected in the list.
The highest number of votes in the 6 districts was received by İsmail Demirci from the İskele Party Assembly list with 4,865 votes. Following him, Ziya Kasım from Gazimağusa received 4,345 votes, and Ömür Ekendal from Lefke received 4,196 votes.
The UBP Headquarters has stated that objections regarding the published lists can be accepted within 48 hours. The voting process to determine the UBP Party Assembly members took place at the Atatürk Sports Hall and was completed this morning under the chairmanship of Mahmut Özçınar.
In the 23rd Ordinary Congress of the UBP, held recently, Ünal Üstel received 65.8 percent of the votes and will continue as UBP Chairman for another three years. A total of 122 candidates competed for the 70-person PM seat.
Additionally, İbrahim Urcan, Özen Hürses, Mustafa Osmanlı, Fuat Nalcıoğlu, and Hasan Hasipoğlu were elected to the high disciplinary board, while Mehmet Ağa and Gülçin Kıraç were elected to the central audit board without a secret ballot due to the sufficient number of members.
The UBP Congress showcased a competitive election between Ünal Üstel and Lefkoşa MPs Hasan Taçoy and Ahmet Melih Karavelioğlu, ultimately resulting in Üstel’s victory with 6,555 votes.
Overall, the UBP Congress was a successful event, setting the stage for the future leadership and direction of the party.
