Uğur Akkuş, Ebru Şallı’s husband, accused of fraud

A Lawsuit Filed Against Businessman Uğur Akkuş for Cryptocurrency Fraud

A lawsuit has been filed against businessman Uğur Akkuş for cryptocurrency fraud. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has prepared an indictment stating that the complainants, Ömer A. and Anvar M., who have joint companies engaged in foreign trade, wanted to purchase cryptocurrency with $500,000 belonging to their company.

The indictment also stated that the complainants contacted defendant Abdullah Alkreish, who acted as an intermediary in return for commission, and that Alkreish introduced the complainants to Uğur Akkuş. It was reported that Akkuş met with the complainants in his office in a shopping mall and agreed to sell them cryptocurrency for the $500,000.

As part of the agreement, Akkuş transferred $2,500 of cryptocurrency to the account of one of the complainants in order to establish trust. He then convinced the complainants to deposit the remaining $497,500 into his account to ensure the continuation of the flow of cryptocurrency.

However, after receiving the money, Akkuş left the workplace, stating that he would deposit the money in the bank. The complainants became suspicious when the money was not deposited into their accounts, and they filed a complaint on the grounds that they were defrauded.

As a result of the fraud, the defendants Uğur Akkuş, Abdullah Alkreish, Ercan Eşkin, and Feyza Betül Köksal have been sentenced to 4 years, 6 months to 15 years each for the crime of “qualified fraud during the commercial activities of persons who are traders or company managers or acting on behalf of the company”.

Additionally, a ban on leaving the country has been imposed on defendant Abdullah Alkreish, and Uğur Akkuş was detained at Istanbul Airport in June but was released after one of the complainants withdrew his complaint, stating that his damages had been repaired.
