Ukraine Warns Belarus Over Military Buildup Near Border
The Ukrainian Ministry released a statement revealing that the Belarusian armed forces have been amassing soldiers, equipment, tanks, artillery, and air defense systems in the Gomel region, near Ukraine’s northern border, under the guise of military exercises. Ukrainian intelligence also detected Russian “Wagner” Group mercenaries in the same region.
The statement issued a stern warning to Belarus, stating that the proximity of these military drills to the state border and the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant poses a significant threat to both Ukraine’s national security and global security at large. The Ministry urged Belarusian authorities to resist pressure from Moscow and to cease all hostile actions, withdrawing their troops from the Ukrainian state border to a distance that exceeds the range of Belarus’ current fire systems.
Furthermore, Ukraine emphasized that it has never acted aggressively towards the Belarusian people and has no intentions of doing so in the future. However, the statement made it clear that any violation of the border by Belarus would result in Ukraine taking all necessary measures to defend itself. The Ukrainian armed forces have been instructed that all military units, facilities, and supply routes located in Belarus will be considered legitimate targets in the event of an invasion.
