The expansion of Istanbul’s rail system network is on the horizon as the Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe Metro line approaches completion. This new metro line is set to serve approximately 2 million passengers and is currently undergoing construction in Ataşehir under the supervision of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
With 11 stops along its 13-kilometer route, the Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe Metro line is already 85 percent complete and will also cater to the Financial Center. The estimated travel time on this line is just 21 minutes, with a capacity to carry 44 thousand passengers in one direction.
Upon its completion, the new metro line will be seamlessly integrated with existing lines such as Üsküdar-Çekmeköy, Kadıköy-Tavşantepe, and Marmaray, providing commuters with enhanced connectivity throughout the city. Mayor İmamoğlu has announced that the line is scheduled to be operational by October-November 2025.
With the addition of the Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe Metro line, Istanbul’s transportation infrastructure is poised to accommodate the growing needs of its residents and further improve the efficiency of the city’s public transportation system.
