UN Condemns Israeli Restrictions on Gaza, Citing Famine and Health Concerns
The United Nations (UN) Human Rights Office has released a report detailing the human rights violations that took place in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Israel between October 2022 and October 2023. The report highlights numerous instances of unlawful killings, hostage-taking, destruction of civilian property, attacks on civilian infrastructure, forced displacement, sexual assault, and torture, all of which are in violation of international humanitarian law.
The report calls for further investigation to fully uncover the extent of the crimes committed and stresses the need for accountability and justice for all those affected. It specifically condemns Hamas’s attacks on October 7, 2023, citing serious violations of international law, as well as Israel’s subsequent military actions that caused immense suffering to Palestinians.
