ASTANA — The Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) has achieved significant milestones during Kazakhstan’s 2020-2024 chairmanship, as highlighted in an official document circulated by the UN Headquarters to the UN General Assembly and Security Council.
Under Kazakhstan’s leadership, CICA has made remarkable progress in advancing multilateral cooperation across Asia. Key achievements include the successful update of the Catalogue of Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs), the introduction of new thematic areas such as combatting terrorism and promoting digital security, and the promotion of sustainable economic and environmental cooperation among member states, as reported by the Kazakh Foreign Ministry’s press service on Jan. 24.
The unique platform provided by CICA has been instrumental in fostering peace, security, and prosperity in Asia. Kazakhstan’s initiatives have also led to the establishment of new permanent advisory bodies, including the CICA Council of Eminent Persons and the Think Tank Forum. Moreover, Kazakhstan has enhanced CICA’s role in addressing global challenges, from pandemics to climate change, ensuring that Asia’s increasing influence contributes to a peaceful and sustainable future.
