Unauthorized Demonstration Results in Vandalism at IMM Building
A group of protesters gathered in Saraçhane to demonstrate against the investigations involving 90 suspects, including Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. The group, led by CHP leader Ozgur Ozgun, assembled in front of the municipal building and warned the police against dispersing them.
During the protest, some individuals within the group resorted to violence by throwing fireworks, stones, and pet bottles at the police, while others used laser pointers to disrupt law enforcement. A clash ensued between the police and the demonstrators, prompting the police to intervene and disperse the crowd using pepper spray.
As the situation escalated, some of the protesters headed towards the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) building. They forcefully entered the building by breaking windows and bypassing security barriers. The group is currently inside the municipality building, and the standoff continues.
