Amid a sudden social media storm and involvement of famous personalities, Nil Anka has come forward to address the issue surrounding her real name. In a 4-page statement on her Instagram account, Anka clarified that her name is indeed Nil Anka and not Ümmügülsum, as previously speculated.
In her statement, Anka expressed gratitude for the public’s interest in her and acknowledged the role of young people in creating enjoyable moments amidst the economic and educational challenges in the country. She emphasized that while her name is important to her, she would use any name with pride. However, she urged people to remember that everyone has a name and it should not be used to judge or evaluate others.
Anka asserted that her identity as Nil Anka existed long before she gained attention through a television program, where she was introduced to the public. Prior to her television appearance, she had been giving concerts and making a name for herself in the music industry.
After graduating from Adnan Menderes University with a degree in International Relations, Anka embarked on her music career, performing in Turkey and Europe. Political instability in Turkey led her to take a break from her music career, during which she resided in South Africa. Following the pandemic, Anka relocated to Europe, where she now resides.
While pursuing a career in the business world, Anka continues to nurture her passion for music as a hobby. She also recently made her debut as an author with the publication of her book, “Escaping from Oneself is Returning to Oneself.”
