Merve Ay from Diyarbakır has overcome incredible odds to pursue her dream of becoming a healthcare professional. When she was just 8 years old, doctors discovered that she had an AVM, a vascular ball, in her left foot heel. This rare condition was typically seen in the brain or spinal cord, so it came as a surprise to everyone involved.
Merve underwent multiple surgeries and even struggled to walk as a result, but the disease kept recurring. Her only wish was to become a paramedic and help others suffering from similar medical issues. Despite the challenges and obstacles, she was determined to succeed. Finally, Merve was able to receive the critical surgery she needed to save her leg when she was connected with Greek-Turkish surgeon Prof. Dr. Afksendiyos Kalangos.
