UNICEF to Launch Inclusive Yurt at World Nomad Games in Kazakhstan

ASTANA – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Kazakhstan is set to unveil an inclusive yurt at the Nomad Universe Ethno-Aul as part of the fifth World Nomad Games cultural program on Sept. 7. The initiative aims to provide children and parents with a space for activities and educational programs that promote inclusion and children’s rights.

The UNICEF yurt will offer a range of activities, including handicraft workshops, board games, and chess and checkers tournaments that will be accessible to children with visual disabilities. Traditional games and workshops in archery and tug-of-war are also planned to encourage social integration and cultural enrichment.

For preschoolers and schoolchildren, interactive workshops will teach traditional handicrafts and offer games that combine physical and mental development. Virtual reality enthusiasts can explore Kazakhstan’s history through a specially designed quest using VR headsets.

Dr. Rashed Mustafa Sarwar, UNICEF Representative in Kazakhstan, expressed excitement about the partnership with the World Nomad Games, emphasizing the importance of creating an inclusive and safe environment for all children.

In addition to the activities for children, UNICEF experts will provide sessions on positive parenting and online child protection for parents attending the event.

Nail Nurov, the head of the directorate for the preparation and organization of the World Nomad Games, praised the partnership with UNICEF, highlighting the rich and inclusive program being offered to children and parents.

The UNICEF yurt will be located in the Altybakan children’s zone within the Ethno-Aul and will operate from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. This initiative underscores Kazakhstan’s commitment to family values and ensuring accessibility and safety for children during the World Nomad Games.
