UNICEF Kazakhstan Joins Forces with World Nomad Games in Astana

UNICEF Kazakhstan Becomes Official Non-Profit Partner of Fifth World Nomad Games

ASTANA — The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Kazakhstan has been named the official non-profit partner of the fifth World Nomad Games, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Directorate for the Preparation and Hosting of the Games on June 20.

According to a press statement from UNICEF, the aim of this partnership is to promote inclusiveness and protect children’s rights during one of the most significant sporting events of the year.

Nail Nurov, Head of the Directorate, highlighted the importance of UNICEF’s involvement in ensuring that the games are not only spectacular but also safe for children. He emphasized the educational potential of traditional national games in promoting successful child development and passing on cultural heritage from generation to generation.

Children up to six years old will receive free entry to the games, while those aged 6 to 18 can attend at a 50% discount.

Rashed Mustafa Sarwar, UNICEF Representative in Kazakhstan, underscored the importance of the right to play, as enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. He expressed pleasure that the World Nomad Games had prioritized this right, especially as Kazakhstan celebrates 30 years since ratifying the Convention.

The memorandum outlines various initiatives, including raising awareness of child rights, ensuring inclusiveness, and providing technical support for organizing recreational activities. UNICEF will train volunteers, organize educational activities, and participate in the scientific program by sharing findings on healthy nutrition for children.

The fifth World Nomad Games are set to take place in Astana from Sept. 8 to 13, with approximately 2,500 participants from 89 countries competing in 21 sports. This event will serve as a cultural and sporting celebration, as well as a platform to promote messages on children’s rights and inclusion.
