Unified Turkic Alphabet Adopted
The Turkic World Common Alphabet Commission successfully concluded its 3rd meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, on September 9-11. The meeting, organized in cooperation with the Turkic Academy and the Turkish Language Association, aimed to finalize the work on the common alphabet project for Turkic languages.
During the meeting, attended by representatives from Turkic states, a consensus was reached on a proposal for a Common Turkic Alphabet consisting of 34 letters. The alphabet, based on Latin characters, was first proposed by scientists in 1991 and aims to promote mutual understanding and cooperation among Turkic peoples while preserving their linguistic heritage.
The Turkic Academy emphasized the historical significance of reaching an agreement on the Common Turkic Alphabet and expressed gratitude to the governments of Turkic states and commission members for their contributions. They also called on relevant institutions to actively support the implementation of the proposed alphabet.
The development of a Common Turkic Alphabet is seen as a positive step towards fostering unity and collaboration among Turkic peoples, highlighting the importance of language in promoting cultural exchange and solidarity.
