Unlicensed 5-Story Building Collapses in Earthquake

The investigation into the devastating earthquake that resulted in the deaths of Neval Aydınlı and her daughter-in-law Müge Aydınlı in the Tunçer Apartment in Küçükdalyan District has reached a critical point. The Hatay Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office Earthquake Investigation Bureau has completed its investigation against the detained defendant Ali Z., the owner of the apartment, and mold master Şahin T., who constructed the building.

According to the indictment accepted by the Hatay 4th High Criminal Court, Özkan Aydınlı, who lost his mother and wife in the earthquake, has spoken out as a complainant. He mentioned that they rented the apartment in 2021 without any knowledge of the building’s construction details or its legality.

The indictment also reveals that no license documents were found for the building, and an expert committee observed various structural defects in the building which led to its collapse during the earthquake.

Furthermore, the investigation discovered that the building was constructed without obtaining a building permit. Both the building owner, Ali Z., and the mold master, Şahin T., admitted to this fact.

As a result, the detained defendants are facing a sentence of 22 years and 6 months in prison for “causing the death and injury of more than one person through conscious negligence.”

The trial of the defendants is scheduled to begin in the near future, bringing hope for justice to the grieving families and survivors of this tragic event.
