Unlicensed and Drunk Driver in Kadıköy Gives Scandalous Defense to Police

Motorcyclist Apprehended After Fleeing Police Checkpoint in Istanbul’s Kadıköy District
Following two recent tragic incidents involving the death of police officers and a cyclist due to reckless driving, the Kadıköy District Police Department Patrol Teams have intensified their control measures. In their latest operation targeting speeding drivers on Çetin Emeç Boulevard, the police encountered a motorcyclist who defied their ‘stop’ warning and attempted to escape by riding in the opposite direction. However, the quick actions of the police teams led to the immediate capture of the motorcyclist.
Nineteen-year-old Tayyip Irmak, who was apprehended and handcuffed by the police, pleaded that he had no malicious intentions to justify his actions. In response, the police officer stated, “You claim that your intentions were harmless. Yet, you rode a motorcycle towards the police in the opposite direction and attempted to flee. Two policemen lost their lives in similar incidents just this week. You then say that you had no bad intentions. We are grateful that nothing worse happened. What do you think would have occurred if your intentions were indeed sinister?”
Further investigations revealed that Tayyip Irmak was driving without a license and had consumed alcohol, registering 1.67 promil in the alcohol test conducted by the police. As a result, the motorcyclist was fined a total of 38,000 liras for various offenses, including driving without a license, driving under the influence, speeding in the opposite direction, and not complying with the ‘stop’ warning.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and respecting the authorities’ instructions, especially in light of recent tragedies. The Kadıköy District Police Department is committed to ensuring public safety and will continue to implement strict measures to prevent reckless driving incidents on the city’s roads.
