UNRWA warns of lost generation in Gaza without ceasefire
UNRWA Commissioner General: Israeli Attacks in Gaza Robbing Children of Their Childhood
Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), has spoken out about the devastating impact of Israeli attacks on Gaza.
In a recent statement, Lazzarini highlighted the fact that children in Gaza are witnessing and experiencing horrors that no child should ever have to endure. He noted that many people have tragically lost their lives or been injured, leaving survivors with deep emotional trauma.
Due to the relentless Israeli attacks, children’s schools have been destroyed, robbing them of an entire year of education and playtime. Lazzarini emphasized that the attacks have stolen the childhoods of children in Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss.
Lazzarini warned that if the violence in Gaza does not come to an end soon, an entire generation will be lost. Since October 7th, Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of 37,232 Palestinians, including at least 15,517 children and 10,279 women. Additionally, 85,037 people have been injured in the conflict.
Reports indicate that there are still thousands of people trapped under the rubble, and civilian infrastructure such as hospitals and schools have been targeted and destroyed. The international community must come together to put an end to the violence and protect the lives of innocent civilians in Gaza.
