The Mystery of 100-Year-Old Cemetery Stones in Alibeyli District
Residents of the Alibeyli district have been intrigued by the mystery surrounding the grave stones located in their area. Estimated to be around 100 years old, the residents have urged authorities to investigate the historical significance of the cemetery.
Historian Safi Karataylı emphasized the importance of preserving these tombstones as cultural treasures. He highlighted that they are not just gravestones, but open-air museums that hold ethnographic value and symbols that have survived from the oldest balbals of the Turks. The motifs and information on the tombstones carry great meaning and historical significance.
Karataylı also shared that the ancient history of the Alibeyli District dates back to Rumi 1280, or 1864 AD, with the formation of nomad villages on the banks of the Taurus Mountains. He stressed the need to register and protect these tombstones to avoid losing valuable historical information.
