Upcoming Hungarian Jazz Festival Beckons Visitors to the Valley of Arts
The Valley of Arts in Kapolcs, Hungary, is set to host the Hungarian Jazz Festival concert series from July 21 to July 30. The festival will take place in the courtyard of the Hungarian Jazz Federation and will feature performances, discussions, and workshops.
The Hungarian Jazz Festival is considered one of the most prestigious events in the Hungarian music scene. It will feature a six-day-long program showcasing Hungarian jazz music.
Among the performers scheduled to appear are Béla Ágoston’s Kerub formation, Santa Diver, the VAN orchestra, the Richárd Révész Latin Quartet with Yulaisy Miranda Ferrer, the Pozsár-Hock-Gyárfás Trio, the Kollmann Gábor Quintet, Zita Gereben, the Pintér Zoltán Trio and Kornél Fekete-Kovács, and the Géza Jónás Quartet.
In addition to the performances, the festival will also include educational sessions. On July 26, saxophonist and composer Viktor Tóth will give a presentation titled “Easy to understand jazz” with live music and audio and video recordings. The following day, Gábor Kollmann, a member of the Hungarian Jazz Federation board, will discuss the basics of improvisation.
On July 28, there will be a discussion on “Women in Hungarian jazz” featuring Zita Gereben, Eszter Hász, Lilla Orbay, and Júlia Karosi. And on July 29, Ferenc Gayer, Vice-President of the federation, will give a lecture titled “Everything began that way,” focusing on the early decades of jazz history.
