Update from Minister Şan on 15 July: Progress and Plans

Minister Alişan Şan Remembers the Coup Attempts in Cyprus and Turkey
Minister of Finance Alişan Şan has published a message commemorating the anniversaries of the coup in Cyprus and the attempted coup in Turkey. These events marked significant moments in the history of both countries.
In his message, Minister Şan acknowledged that July 15 is a day that carries great significance. On this day in 1974, a coup supported by the Greek Junta Government took place in Cyprus, while in 2016, an attempted coup occurred in the Republic of Turkey. Minister Şan emphasized that these events have profoundly shaped the countries’ paths.
Regarding the coup in Cyprus, Minister Şan stated that it successfully curbed the ambitions of the Greek-Greek duo seeking ENOSIS (union with Greece). By doing so, it ensured the freedom of the Turkish Cypriot people who had been waiting for liberation for years. Nicos Sampson, who became a puppet of the coup and junta administration, declared the annexation of the island to Greece. However, the heroic Mujahideen at the front, along with the Republic of Turkey exercising its guarantor rights, prevented this from happening. Ultimately, with the successful Peace Operation, the Turkish Cypriot people achieved the freedom they had longed for. Minister Şan expressed gratitude and respect for the heroic veterans and martyrs who dedicated themselves to this cause.
Shifting his focus to the coup attempt in Turkey, Minister Şan emphasized the detrimental effects of coups on a country’s progress and democracy. He condemned the attempted coup and commended the Turkish people, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the strong stance taken to protect democracy from any harm. Minister Şan reminded everyone that Turkey has experienced the pain of military coups and similar attempts in the past. He urged everyone to remember that undemocratic behaviors will never succeed and saluted the Turkish nation for their resilience in defending democracy.
As we commemorate these significant anniversaries, let us honor the memories of those who sacrificed everything in the pursuit of freedom and democracy. May their souls rest in peace, and may their families find solace and strength.
