Update on Extradition Case: Eylem Tok’s Court Appearance Date Revealed
The case of Eylem Tok and her son Timur Cihantimur has recently taken a new turn, causing a stir in Turkey. Eylem Tok, who was involved in a car accident that resulted in the death of Oğuz Murat Aci and subsequently fled to the United States, has a date set for her final hearing in the Massachusetts District Court in Boston. The hearing, scheduled for September 11 at 14:15, is expected to determine whether Tok will be extradited back to Turkey.
The tragic incident occurred when 17-year-old Timur Cihantimur crashed a luxury car he was driving without a license into parked ATV-type vehicles, resulting in the death of 29-year-old Oğuz Murat Aci. Following the accident, Cihantimur and his mother Eylem Tok fled first to Egypt and then to the US.
In response to the incident, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Eylem Tok for “protecting a criminal” and for Timur Cihantimur for “reckless homicide and injury,” requesting a red notice for their arrest.
Turkey later requested the extradition of Tok and Cihantimur from the US. The duo was apprehended in Boston on June 14 and has since appeared before separate judges. The decision to continue their detention was made in previous hearings.
The upcoming final hearing on September 11 will be crucial in determining whether Eylem Tok will be extradited back to Turkey to face trial for her involvement in the tragic incident.
