Update on Hearing for Murder of Narin Güran
After the disappearance of the Rural Tavşantepe neighborhood in Bağlar district on August 21, 2024, a heartbreaking discovery was made on the 19th day of the search. The lifeless body of the child Narin Güran was found in a creek bed, closed off with stones weighing 30, 25, and 20 pounds. This tragic event led to the arrest and subsequent charging of Nevzat Bahtiyar with aggravated life imprisonment for the deliberate killing of Narin Güran.
In a shocking turn of events, Salim Güran, Enes Güran, and Yüksel Güran, family members of the victim, were also detained and sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for their involvement in destroying, hiding, or altering evidence related to the crime. Additionally, 15 defendants were indicted for their involvement in the case, including children who were dragged into criminal activities.
During the legal proceedings, the defendant’s lawyers raised concerns about the handling of the case and requested the involvement of relevant organizations such as the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the Association of Fighting Child Abuse. The judge agreed to their demands and allowed their participation in the case.
Following the initial hearing, the defendant’s lawyers expressed dissatisfaction with the proceedings and lodged a complaint with the Council of Judges and Prosecutors. They raised issues related to the defendants’ rights, the lack of a proper indictment, and the extended detention period of the defendants.
