New Developments in Investigation of Pasta Factory Explosion in Sakarya: 6 People Detained
Following the explosion at a pasta factory in the Hendek district of Sakarya on September 15, a thorough investigation was launched by the Hendek Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. As part of this investigation, 7 suspects, including factory owners and managers, were summoned to give statements.
After interrogation and procedures at the prosecutor’s office, a detention order was issued for 6 of the 7 suspects who appeared at the Hendek Courthouse. Subsequently, six suspects, including factory owners and managers, were taken into custody and transferred to the police station. One suspect, after giving their statement, was released.
The explosion and subsequent fire at the pasta factory resulted in 30 injuries, with victims being rushed to hospitals in the Hendek and Akyazı districts, as well as in Düzce and Kocaeli, by medical teams. Deputy Minister of Health Halim Özçevik reported that among the injured were one child and 3 firefighters, with 2 individuals requiring intubation. Tragically, during the cooling efforts, the lifeless body of one worker, Mesut Şimay (27), was discovered.
This incident has sparked fear and concern among residents, especially those living close to industrial areas. In another recent event in Sultanbeyli, 10 people were evacuated due to an emergency situation, highlighting the importance of safety measures in such environments.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the explosion at the pasta factory, and further developments are expected to unfold in the coming days.
