Urgent Meeting: USA Plans New Aid for Ukraine
US President Joe Biden reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Ukraine during a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, according to a statement from the White House.
During the call, Biden announced a new defense aid package of $425 million for Ukraine, which will include air defense weapons, armored vehicles, and ammunition. The package aims to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities against Russian aggression.
The US administration will urgently send weapons such as air defense missiles, tactical air defense systems, artillery systems, ammunition, armored personnel carriers, and infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine as part of the aid package.
President Zelenskiy expressed his gratitude for the support, stating that he thanked President Biden, Congress, and the American people for the defense package. He also mentioned discussing additional training for Ukrainian soldiers and the possibility of joint arms production during the meeting.
Zelenskiy informed Biden about the Victory Plan, which received strong support from all parties and groups in the Ukrainian Parliament, and stated that he will present the plan to EU partners at the European Council meeting.
The US and European countries are expected to discuss further steps to support Ukraine during President Biden’s visit to Germany on October 18. The ongoing support from the US is crucial for Ukraine’s defense against external threats.
