Violent Incident at Atatürk Cultural Center: CHP Leader Attacked
Istanbul, Turkey — A shocking incident unfolded at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) following a ceremony, where Selçuk Tengioğlu, a 66-year-old man with a criminal history, assaulted CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. The attack occurred in Taksim Square, raising concerns about security at political events.
Tengioğlu was promptly detained by authorities and taken to the Beyoğlu Şehit Haşim Usta police station for questioning. The Public Security Branch Directorate is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault.

Tengioğlu stated that on the day of the incident, he had breakfast at an apartment hotel before heading to the AKM for the ceremony. He claimed that the decision to attack Özel was spontaneous, occurring in the moment without any prior planning. "When I saw Özgür Özel, I just decided instantly," he said.
