Urgent Weather Alert: Snow Warning Issued by Meteorologists in Balkans
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a weather warning for various regions in Turkey. Meteorology forecasts thunderstorms in Iğdır, Van, and Hakkari, along with heavy rainfall in Marmara, the coastal Aegean, and some eastern provinces. Snowfall mixed with rain is expected in higher elevations. Strong winds are also anticipated in many areas, with short-term storms likely.
The temperatures are expected to drop by 3 to 5 degrees in Marmara, with no significant changes elsewhere. The wind is projected to blow from the south and north in Marmara, with stronger gusts in certain regions. The forecast also includes warnings for heavy rainfall in specific areas and the potential for snowfall in higher elevations.
The General Directorate of Meteorology expects Turkey to experience cold and rainy weather influenced by the Balkans starting on Monday, April 7. Temperatures are expected to drop below seasonal norms, with the possibility of mixed rain and snow in northern and eastern regions. Agricultural areas are at risk of frost due to the sudden decrease in night temperatures, particularly in several regions.
Certain cities, including Aydın, Balıkesir, Bursa, Çanakkale, Edirne, Istanbul, İzmir, Kırklareli, Manisa, and Tekirdağ, have been placed on yellow alert due to the weather conditions. Flights of Bursa sea buses have been canceled, and traffic congestion has been reported in Istanbul due to the end of a 9-day holiday.
The cities of Edirne, Kırklareli, and Tekirdağ have reported significant snowfall, causing disruptions in daily life. Residents are advised to follow Meteorology’s forecasts and early warnings to stay safe during these weather events.
